About Hitsujiyaki

In 2009 I was lucky enough to accompany my mom and grandma to Japan.  It was my very first visit and one of the things that I really wanted to do while I was there was eat taiyaki.  (Read the short taiyaki entry on Wikipedia.) I’m not sure where or when I first heard about taiyaki but I was determined to get some while I was in Japan.  We finally found a vendor on the last full day of our trip in the food-filled basement of a department store.  They were warm and delicious and I think the fish shape is wonderful.

Taiyaki in Japan

A picture of the taiyaki I had in Japan. Yum.

The name of my blog comes from my desire to see taiyaki-like cakes made in shapes of other animals like sheep.  Sheep shaped taiyaki-like cakes, which I’m calling hitsujiyaki (since hitsuji is Japanese for sheep,) would be my favorite snack of all time.

About Me

My name is Katherine and I’m currently a student at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.  I’ve lived in Hawaii on the island of Oahu all my life.  I have two fuzzy monsters (a.k.a. dogs) named Kimmie and Noe.  I enjoy TV and movies probably more than I should.  I used to draw and doodle a lot and I’m considering taking it up again.  My favorite color is blue.  I play World of Warcraft and think Shamans need a buff.
